About this training

The Enhanced Armed Guard course provides advanced firearms training for security officers who require authorization to carry rifles and/or shotguns while on duty. This program builds on the standard armed guard foundation and focuses on long‑gun safety, deployment, and operational proficiency. Students receive detailed instruction on weapon handling, ballistics, ready positions, sling management, loading techniques, malfunction clearing, and tactical movement with a long gun. Classroom modules cover legal considerations, use‑of‑force standards, penetration concerns, and the unique responsibilities associated with long‑gun deployment in security operations.

Practical training includes hands‑on manipulation, platform‑specific skills, and live‑fire qualification with the rifle and/or shotgun the officer intends to carry. Students must demonstrate safe handling and meet the state qualification standard to earn authorization. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to apply for Tennessee’s Enhanced Armed Guard endorsement, allowing them to carry approved long‑gun platforms in accordance with state law and employer policy.
