About this training

The American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed to train healthcare providers, public safety professionals, and emergency responders to recognize life-threatening medical emergencies, provide high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early AED use.

This professional-grade curriculum places a heavy emphasis on rapid assessment, critical thinking, and high-performance team dynamics to improve patient outcomes in both pre-hospital and in-facility environments.

Core Course Coverage

  • High-Performance CPR: Advanced mastery of single-rescuer and multi-rescuer CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants, focusing on correct compression depth, rate, and chest recoil.
  • Rapid Assessment & Visual Surveys: Utilizing the systematic "Assess, Recognize, and Care" concept to safely evaluate a scene, perform rapid visual surveys, and check for pulse and breathing simultaneously.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Immediate integration of an AED within single and multi-rescuer configurations, including advanced troubleshooting and team-coordinated transitions.
  • Advanced Ventilation Techniques: Proper assembly and operation of Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) resuscitators and pocket masks, including two-rescuer ventilation techniques and oxygen delivery synchronization.
  • Team Dynamics & Communication: Developing leadership and communication skills required to manage a resuscitation team, minimize interruptions in chest compressions, and avoid provider fatigue through structured role rotation.
  • Special Resuscitation Situations: Specialized protocols for clearing foreign-body airway obstructions (choking), administering care for opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies, and managing drowning or hypothermia incidents.

Certification Earned

Upon successful completion of all classroom hours, the 25-question written exam, and the final practical skills testing scenarios, participants will be issued an official American Red Cross 2-Year Basic Life Support (BLS) digital credential.
